"Celebrating 25 Magical Years of Disney on Broadway" Concert Benefiting COVID-19 Relief Fund Rescheduled for Tonight, April 17
First it was on, then it was off, now it appears as though the Broadway Cares benefit concert "Celebrating 25 Magical Years of Disney on Broadway" benefiting the COVID-19 relief fund is back on and will be streamed tonight, April 17th at 7 PM.
The steam will be hosted by Ryan McCartan (Frozen on Broadway's Hans) live from his home and will feature a rerun of the the concert, "Celebrating the 25th anniversary of Disney on Broadway" which was originally filmed in November 2019.
The show will feature 79 Broadway performers and will also mark a reunion of 18 Newsies from the show’s Broadway and national touring productions.
On April 11, Broadway Cares announced it had been unable to reach an agreement with the leadership of the American Federation of Musicians to permit the stream of the previously recorded concert. Disney Theatrical Productions, SAG-AFTRA, and Actors’ Equity Association had all previously granted the necessary permissions for the online fundraiser to go forward without additional fees. More information about the leading up to the cancelation of the original steam can be found here.
“There is no better news today than that which helps us ensure all in the entertainment industry who are facing the serious challenges of this COVID-19 pandemic can depend on the support of all their colleagues in the industry,” said Broadway Cares Executive Director Tom Viola in a recent statement. “My thanks to the leadership of the American Federation of Musicians. My best wishes and many thanks to AFM Local 802 President Adam Krauthamer and the Local 802 membership who were willing to speak up during this unprecedented time to support the arts community and those in need.”
